Open Question: It’s been 2 years and my mom is still in denial!?

Monday, September 19th, 2011

I’m 15 and I’ve been a vegetarian for a little over 2 years now. My mom is still in denial though. At first she acted like everything was okay, but she’s told me that she was nice about it because she thought it was a phase. Obviously it wasn’t, and now 2 years later she’s trying to guide me back to eating meat.
At restaurants I’ll ask the waiter if ____ has meat in it, ect. One time the waiter said “No but it has lard if you’re vegetarian”. I was just about to change my order since I don’t eat lard, and my mom comes in and says “Well she’s not a real vegetarian she just doesn’t like the taste of meat”. It really made me angry.
My aunt just moved back in with us and we’re trying to go on a diet. She told me we could eat salmon and vegetables, and I told her how I would just eat the vegetables then. She acted all confused, and said “What? You’re not eating fish?”. When I went vegetarian I gave up ALL meat, including fish, she knows that. When my aunt came back she told my aunt (who lived with us when I went vegetarian 2 years ago) “well she doesn’t want to eat fish anymore” - like I’ve been eating fish this whole time, which I haven’t, and she knows that. I haven’t had ANY type of meat since June 10th 2008.

Sorry I know this is kind of long and I tend to ramble on and on, but there are SO many examples I could use to show how immature she is being in this situation. How do I handle this? I’m never eating meat for the rest of my life, and actually plan to raise my children vegetarian (depending on my future husband). How do I get this through her head NOW that this is who I am?

Open Question: How will a 12 egg omlet and a pound of hashbrowns affect my diet?

Friday, August 26th, 2011

I have been working out and dieting for the last 5 months and i have lost 20 lbs and have put on a lot of muscle. i run atleast 2 miles a day 5 days a week and weightlift 5 days a week. only on a few days have i cheated on my diet so im pretty well disciplined. but tomorow i am going to a restaurant to take on a food challenge at a restaurant called The Broken Yolk. It is a 12 egg omlet loaded with vegetables and topped with tons of chilli along with over a pound of hashbrowns and 2 large biscuts and if i eat it within an hour its free and i get a free t-shirt and my name on the wall… but its more for personal pride. so how would this massive calorie meal affect my body and my current diet? am i active enough to burn it off quick and what would be the quickest way to burn these instant calories off? cuz its like a 4000 calorie meal and i try to get under 2500 a day. im a pretty big guy at 185 but im a little concerned how my body will react, but im pretty confident i can do it because im a fat kid at heart.

Open Question: If you were working behind the kitchen at a restaurant, and a customer is rude and disrespectful to you?

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

How would you react as you back to the kitchen to prepare his plate! (You’re preparing his rib-eye steak, mashed potatoes, and vegetables, with bread)
That’s why I’m never rude to the waiters at my table. Regardless if i wasn’t served properly, there’s always a nice way to ask for assistance.

Open Question: My 3 year old sister won’t eat properly?

Sunday, May 15th, 2011

She’s always eaten anything put in front of her, vegetables, fruit anything.
But then like 1 month ago we stayed with my aunt because my parents were aboard in Spain because of the ash cloud, since then she refuses to eat anything except yogurt and chicken nuggets. We took her to the doctor to see if anything was wrong with her throat and it hurt her to eat. But that’s fine, we tried to make food look fun to her and more appealing. We tried to go out for dinner with her but she won’t eat food at restaurants again unless its chicken nuggets or yogurt. We’ve tried force feeding her but she just spits it our and cries, we tried making dinner fun like having bbq’s and going out for picnics. Letting her eat alone in case she didn’t like people watching her eat. We’ve tried given her food slowly like introducing it to her. I’ve tried eating with her to show her it was nice. She won’t even eat sweets or Chocolate. She don’t eat anything with her chicken nuggets like chips or veg. We’ve taken her to the doctor and he doesn’t know the problem and she’s healthy so theres nothing he can do because its not affecting her body. But we think its unhealthy of course. Is there anything we could try, because we don’t know what to do?

Open Question: Why does meat in restaurants automatically have marinades on it?

Saturday, March 19th, 2011

I’m talking mostly about chicken. I know chicken is technically poultry, but screw it. For this question I’m counting it as a meat. I don’t know if they do it to steaks as well, and I don’t eat fish.

I have celiac disease and HAVE to know if any of my food contains gluten or wheat in the ingredients. I understand that restaurants have to order their food from suppliers. I get that. What I don’t get is why said suppliers think they have to put marinades on the meat then don’t bother to tell anyone what is in said marinade. MANY marinades contain soy sauce which contains wheat, which contains gluten.
I should be able to go to a nice restaurant and eat a MEAL without having to worry about that or being stuck with a few vegetables or a salad. I do mean a FEW veggies. Potatoes, green beans, black eyed peas and the occasional turnip greens or spinach. Sometimes there will be others available, but those seem to be the staple side items in the South. Mac and cheese? Fried okra? Fried Squash? NOPE. All contain wheat and will make me sick as a dog.

So why suppliers? Why must you mess food up with your marinades? Can’t you at least tell us what’s in them?

When I was a little boy I like to go outside and play in the yard. As a boy I had toy trucks and cars I kept in my book bag. All my friends and cousins would come to my house to play video games. As a boy I liked to climb the tree in my backyard. As a boy, I never liked to eat my vegetables. I was a child that had a lot of hair. I was very social and liked to talk to other children and adults. My friends were a mix of boys and girls and they were all a lot of fun. I could sleep in as late as i wanted when i was really little. My mom would make me sit at the table until I ate them. That really did not work because I would just sit there. Our neighborhood had a lot of kids, and we spent all summer playing.
We considered an entire two or three blocks to be our private playground, playing hide-and-seek or war. When I went to school I played basketball will all the bigger kids. I used to play soccer for my school. I was very misbehaved as a little boy. I was always in timeout and detention. At recess everyone would play softball so I would try to play but the older kids would always take my turn. Then they saw I was really good so they let me play.
In the summer I would go to camp with my brothers for the whole summer. At camp I played capture the flag and had water balloon fights. At camp we did a lot of fun activities and games. When we got back home everyone would want to know how it went. As a boy, me and my friends would ride ours bikes around the neighborhood and have races. I would always win and we all got left with scares. We had a dog when I was younger as well. The dog was very rough and playful. The first time I saw him, he knock me over. Summer was always a wonderful time. The swimming pool always opened the Monday after school was out, and Malcom and I were always allowed to use the one dollar refund of our school book deposit fee to buy a summer’s season ticket at the swimming pool. The pool was across town, just past the football field, not far from the city park
In the winters I remember always playing in the snow. We had snow ball fight and made snowmen. When I was younger there was a big blizzard and the snow was over my head. One day school got canceled and my mom made my favorite. Then me and my brothers went out to play in the snow. I put on my favorite boots.
As a boy I went to Disney World with my school. We went to all the amusement parks and ate at a lot of restaurants. The rides were all fun and the food was delicious. Me and my friend got lost for a couple hours and everyone was looking for us.Then my parents came and took me and my brothers to Universal Studios. All the rides there were fun too like the roller coaster.
When I got a little older I started to play football. I was in little league and I had never played before. I was fast so the coaches put me some where on the field. Then started to really like football.

Open Question: How many calories does this sound like?

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I had a fairly large salad with sesame chicken on it. The salad was just vegetables with no dressing, the sesame chicken was leftovers from a chinese restaurant, but there was a good amount of it.

I’m kind of worried about eating more today since i had that and a 35 calorie fudgsicle and I think the salad was a lot of calories, I was just going to have an 80 calorie yogurt but I want to make sure first. For exercise, I had a 2 hour African dance class for school (it wasn’t much since it was only the first class) and an hour of cardio kickboxing
