Open Question: Soy milk on restaurants?

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

I always have my morning coffee with soy milk at my home but I also like to have a coffee sometimes when I’m out studying for my exams and don’t really have time to get back home to make my own coffee. I’ve been vegetarian for about 6 months and I want to be vegan someday :)
I’m making the changes really slowly, at my own pace. So like I’ve already told you, I’m having soy milk at home, but when I’m on a hurry and need a coffee I’m quite out of options.
I know that Starbucks have soy milk, but do you know about any others restaurants where they have soy milk? It doesn’t have to be a coffee shop, any restaurant should do it. Thanks

Saturday, September 17th, 2011

Okay I’m a 17 year old girl with 2 years customer service experience as a cashier at a restaurant that was self service(not waiters). recently ive only been getting about 16 hours a week and I’m looking for a second job. I applied for target, starbucks, and Aerie(a seperate store in my mall from american eagle but still owned by AE). i was wondering a couple things..

which store would i be most likely to be able to get more hours and more flexbile hours working for?
what store is more fun to work at?
what store has more benefits and discounts and perks?
what store has a better reputation for how they treat employeeS?
and if youve worked at any of these places please give me your input on what its like because i really cannot make up my mind and if i get hired at all these places i obviously can only pick one because i already have another job and am going back to school in the fall.

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

met a guy on a dating site a while back, a few months ago, he’s no longer on the website anymore, but he still keeps in touch, thru texting.
last week he told me that he was gonna take me out to a winery…i couldn’t meet him last week tho, had busy work schedule. tonite he texted me that he found a great little restaurant here in town and he wants to meet there tomorrow nite.
i can’t do tomorrow nite either due to me working late, so i asked him if we could meet on tues, around 3pm, maybe at a starbucks. to me, restaurant is more of a 2nd date idea, not 1st.
so anyways, he texted back that it sounds great and that he can’t wait!
omg i hope everything goes great! i seriously like this guy.
i just hope he likes me too, and finds me attractive as well.
but what if he doesn’t???
omg im like excited and freaking out at the same time!

we’re both 21 btw.

Open Question: Is it ok to sit at an unbusy restaurant to use to the wifi?

Friday, July 29th, 2011

If I need somewhere to go to do homework on my laptop, can I sit at a UNBUSY restaurant during the middle of the day? I have this question because I would have a waitress and I don’t know if it’s considered rude. I’d be there about three hours but I would order food and leave about a 5 dollar tip. (really cheap food there, my food costs less than that). What is the etiquette? Thank you.
Oh…I want to go there instead of Starbucks or something because I want their crepes for breakfast.

Open Question: Why do Japanese people stare at me in public places?

Friday, July 8th, 2011

I’m a fifteen-year-old half-Japanese girl who is currently visiting family in Japan. I can speak fluent Japanese, so I don’t have any trouble going to stores, restaurants, or other public places.

However, I’ve noticed that I get a lot of curious glances and stares from people, and it’s a bit creepy because I have no idea what they’re thinking of me. Quite recently, I was drinking coffee at a local Starbucks and I spotted a young man nodding in my direction to his friend, saying, “Look over there, at that girl.” I felt so awkward that they were paying so much attention to me. Yes, it’s true, I definitely don’t look Japanese, but why should that capture the attention of so many people?

I’m probably overreacting about this situation, but I was wondering why Japanese people stare at me in public places. Is it because Americans/foreigners are rare, or because they absolutely despise me?
@ Nostrils: LOL. No, I definitely didn’t have a live chicken on my head.

Open Question: Starbucks and tipping the overly-friendly workers?

Sunday, May 8th, 2011

Just wondering how people feel about tipping at Starbucks. I have been a server for a while, although not presently. I worked at upscale-casual restaurants, and I needed to thoroughly know the menu and culinary terms to explain to customers, and smoothly execute wine service. I was trained both in the kitchen and on the floor for minimally a week. I gave the very basic job duties because as I was looking to see how people felt about tipping at Starbucks, I kept seeing baristas arguing that they are specially trained, and I just want to remind them that EVERYONE is specially trained (or should be) for their job. I also saw that there seems to be a consensus that anyone who doesn’t tip has not worked in the food/hospitality industry.

Please, correct me if I’m wrong, but I have heard that Starbucks’ employees earn above minimum wage, have insurance, and paid vacation - even available to part-time workers. Servers and bartenders do not earn minimum wage, do not typically get PAID vacation. Health insurance could be offered, but rarely.

Now true, I mostly order through the drive-through (as do millions of people who order fast food- and yes, Starbucks is a glamorized fast food stop) and do not order just a cup of coffee (I get a blended cream frappuccino), but why the hell should I tip? The over-friendly workers annoy me, and they provide no service to me (other than the drive-through). What am I tipping for - pooled tips are ridiculous, anyway.

I live in a small town just big enough to have a small Starbucks (conveniently just across from where a local coffee shack has been for some time), and they have a sign explicitly prohibiting tips; the Starbucks in “the big ‘ole city” have tip jars. The cute democratic tip jars to vote on your favorite thing for the day.

I do not tip, and just wondering how others feel. Also, does anyone find the overly-friendly staff irritating?

Open Question: What ever happened to LEADERSHIP? How come there are no leaders anymore?

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011

Since the job market is so grim in Chicago, I’ve been seeking jobs outside the U.S.. Ironic since this was the country migrants once came to, and now we are becoming the immigrants. Amongst these jobs I’ve sought out, since the money is so good, is a position I’ve found is teaching English in a University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, when hearing upon my phone interview today from the job recruiter warning me on how badly women are treated there, I’m having second thoughts, because, well, I’m a woman. An American woman.

In America, black people complain and complain about how bad they have it and never shut the hell up about the worn out topic of racism. YOU ARE PETTY, PATHETIC WHINERS.

In Saudi Arabia, women are less than second class and are considered dirtier than dogs. Every single day a woman in Saudi Arabia is raped violently, then prosecuted by a judge, or better yet, King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz, for having sex with a man that wasn’t her husband in the first place. If a woman has sex outside a marital union, they will be persecuted by death while the participating male will serve some time, but maybe a year or two. Women can’t even sit in the same area at a restaurant as the men do in Saudi Arabia. It’s illegal for women to drive a car or going to the grocery store alone. Women being humiliated, beaten, imprisoned, and murdered by the religious police there is frequent, and they’re constantly reminded on how sinful they are as they’re beaten by police for not abiding to her husbands demands, even if he’s forcing her to sleep in the barn with cows and pigs.
To be whipped with 200 lashes for sitting with a male co-worker at a Starbucks in Saudi Arabia is often combined with being stripped while the Religious Police dip the woman’s head scarf (women must have hair covered by law) and clothing in mud and then forced to put the same mud-drenched clothes on before seeing the judge that will condemn her regardless of anything she says, since she’s a second class citizen. They’re only recently permitted to part from their duties temporarily of cleaning house and making babies at the age of 14 in favor of education, which has only become slightly available to them in the last 30 years. However, women are excluded from studying engineering, architecture, and other subjects that are officially to be reserved for men. In regards to women wanting to study law and pharmacy, it is only in the past 4 or 5 years becoming available minimally when attending college. Let me remind you Saudi Arabia is a filthy rich country, so lack of money or education isn’t the problem. Women don’t have rights there simply because they are pets meant for breeding and cleaning house for the men and Islam.
The loop hole to all of this: If Saudi Arabian women have the opportunity to go abroad outside of Saudi Arabia and outside of Islam, all of these atrocities are not valid and they are permitted the same rights as the women in the Western World. Simple as that.

Why and how is the United Nations allowing this kind of treatment to women? Why isn’t 20/20 and CNN bringing tyrannies like this to the forefront of our attention 24/7? Why do we in the western world just keep throwing money at situations like this when what we need is someone to take the reigns and lead? Why don’t we have leaders anymore? Why isn’t Obama taking charge like Franklin D. Roosevelt did with pulling us out of the Great Depression and saving the day with WWII? Why isn’t Congress coming up with a plan to change our economic situation rather than mud-slinging, arguing, relentless negotiating, taxing, shifting money around? Lead for gods sake! George Bush got his way immediately when he wanted to war with Iraq, so why can’t our government come up with a plan NOW on railing plans out rather than pissing our deficit away? Let me sit down with a pen and paper — I have some great ideas and I need a job! Why won’t someone stand up to anything anymore with a plan?
George Washington, Martin Luther, Martin Luther King, Jr, Benjamin Franklin, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, John Lennon, Winston Churchill and Joan of Arc, even Micheal Moore, the hippies in the 60’s, The Black Panthers, Women’s Lib: these were movements of humans fighting in fervor for what is right with courage, bravery and fury! They new what was important and had a message and drew their resources for their ideologies and got the job done. All we do today is distract ourselves with our iPods and singing competitions, and menial celebrity gossip and stupid political ettiquette. Why is it that business men are in control of our lives today? Why doesn’t anyone fight back? Why are you all so chicken? Why won’t anyone come up with a plan to do something rather than throw money at the situation? Contribute to society rather than reproducing more useless babies and focus
and focusing on your stupid love relationships. Do something important. Lead! We need a leader! Do something already and stop taking it like a wimp!! I hope this makes you angry because I’m furious.
Okay, I guess i could’ve gone without using the ‘black’ analogy, I just want my fellow American’s to prioritize issues in the matter of importance. The French government is afraid of their citizens and caters to their needs accordingly, because citizens of France will storm and rally. We sit back and do nothing in fear of consequences and fear everything, period. Maybe a mother of a defeated soldier will sit outside the Whitehouse with a stupid picket sign in hand. Big deal.
You have every right to be angry with me for seeming a biggot, but i’d scream out the side of the Sears Tower that i’m the Grand Dragon of the KKK if I thought that’d motivate some people to fight for something already.
Be angry and with force and use action rather than just waiting for somebody else to act on behalf of your frustration. Be a leader.

Open Question: Dating in a Suburban Area - How to go about it?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

This may sound completely retarded, but I’ve never dated anyone in a suburban area(suburbs in New Jersey) before. I’ve dated in urban/college-townish areas before, which would have often involved my date and I going to a starbucks/au bon pain and grabbing a coffee, an ice cream store, restaurant, or even a stroll in the park.

The thing is, I can’t see myself driving out to a starbucks, meeting the girl there, hanging out with her for an hour or two, and then leaving.

I get this odd feeling that I need to plan more complex and lengthy dates/events simply because of the fact that we both have to drive everywhere to get to some place.

Does anyone have any experience in this area?
I’ve already met someone, I’m just not sure what kind of date to take them out on.
