Open Question: Best areas to stay in Mexico City?

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

My hubby and I are planning a trip to Mexico City for the winter holidays and new years. We are in our 40’s, active, and into the hustle and bustle of city life. Although we love culture, we do not want to spend our time in all the art museums and churches. Can you recommend a cool neighborhood to stay in that is safe, close to cafes/food carts/restaurants, subways and attractions? Ie: If NYC were Mexico we would prefer a Time Square/Soho than an Upper East Side.

Open Question: I just got fired, but didn’t get paid. Is it legal to get fired, and not get paid (more info inside)?

Saturday, August 21st, 2010

Alright, I’m a 19 year old Chicano (Mexican-American, meaning I was born in the U.S with Mexican descendant) living in New York City.

I got a job as busboy in a Café/Restaurant/Bar SoHo, Manhattan. I was training for two days already, and today was my third day training. They’d paid me $7.25/hr while training then deduct it to $4.65/hr plus tips. I was doing good in the past two days of my training but today I got offtrack & was going slow. Then the manager called me up to her office, and said they had to “let me go” because I wasn’t as “fast nor good enough” as they thought I’d be.

So, I didn’t even bothered to ask if I still got paid or not. I just got changed, and left.

Also, they made me fill out all this legal papers like the W2 form, and other stuffs. Should I get paid for the hours I worked, and got fired? Or I don’t get paid at all? (plus, everyone gets paid on Thursdays & I started Wednesday but took Friday off, and I couldn’t paid in Thursday since I just recently started.)

P.S: I want honest & mature answers, nothing childish nor sarcastic (e.g: “you’re Mexican, you don’t need to get paid. you need to go back to Mexico”; “shut the f*¢k up! you got fired for being a lazy Mexican”; etc.), please. Thank You!

Open Question: New to NYC-Any Advice?

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

I’m 18 and moving to New York City to attend FIT. I’m sooo nervous about moving to such a huge city. I’m looking for an apartment in either Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens or Manhattan. Particularly SoHo and the Tribeca area. Where are some districts you would recommend to live? Also restaurants and grocery stores etc. Any other advice on living NYC would be great.
Thank you:)

Open Question: Good NYC restaurant for 21st birthday?

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

I’m turning 21 in June and my mom is taking me to Bliss Spa in Soho. I was wondering if there are any cute restaurants in the area that we could go to. I’m looking for something that’s not too expensive but is unique, if possible. We both eat pretty much anything so the cuisine doesn’t matter. Thanks so much.

Open Question: Where is the best location to stay in New York?

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

Where do you think is the best location (not best hotel) to stay in New York and why?
Soho? Chelsea? Looking for an area that is close to shops/restaurants/cool bars but also easily accessible to train station and major attractions.

Open Question: Are the Woodbury Common Premium Outlets in NY nice and good priced?

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

I will be traveling to NYC this summer and I am really lost. I have never been there and wondered if someone could give me advice?
1. Is the outlet store like really good priced? Are the deals good? (Like by good I mean can you buy Nikes for $20 and T-shirts for $4? Are the stores nice?
2. Should I buy a Metro Card? If so were can I go? Can I go to Coney Island?
3. Are there any good beaches to go swimming in? Do they cost money (are there addition fees)?
4. Where are some nice hotels to stay in at a reasonable rate that are conveniently located maybe in downtown NY near shopping places or other attractions?
5. Where are SoHo and Chinatown located in respect from downtown?
6. Are there any activities you suggest I can do? Any good restaurants (maybe seafood)? Are there any sights to see that would be fun? What you would suggest for a first timer to New York?
7. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions!
