Open Question: How can I file a complaint against a 24-Hour business that has extremely noisy customers overnight?

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

I live directly on the other side of the block of a 24-Hour Mexican Restaurant. And I can safely say that at least half of my nights living here have been with interrupted sleep multiple times the same night. I’ve been here 11 months and have been quietly puttin up with this since day 1. Now my major problem is that i have a newborn girl who keeps getting startled awake by their noisy customers. Moving is not an option because I live with other people and I ended up with the room closest to the noise.

They are approx. 30ft from my window. Being a 24 hour restaurant, they attract a lot of trash.
Trash that shows up after all the Bars Cut Off drinks. (2am especially Fridays and Saturdays)
Trash that honks their horn at 4 am.
Drunk ppl who are always shouting and screaming in the parking lot and even some who have their car stereo and subwoofer blasting Banda music the whole time they’re in the drive thru ( and the food service is slow to make things worse)
One drunken genius even crashed into the steel dumpster in the quiet of the night (which made everyone jump awake thinking something exploded), hit the curb in the parking lot and half drove off the sidewalk into the street. 3 very loud startling noises by the same person.

Who can i complain to? I want to start filing a complaint for everytime they make unbearable noise. I can’t call 911 cuz it’s not an emergency. This restaurant is trash so the BBB wont matter. Any easy options? like an online one?

Open Question: Change jobs or have two jobs?

Saturday, May 28th, 2011

I have been working at a new job for about a month doing bar and restaurant work, before this I had no experience. I work almost everyday as in my interview I told them I was available at all times. Today I was offered a job doing day work on fridays and saturdays at my favourite cafe/bar. Should I try do both jobs? If so, how would I ask my boss if I could not work friday and saturday daytimes? (I am usually rostered on friday day but saturday night). Or should I pass up my more full time job which is boring to go for a job with much less hours that I would enjoy more? Thanks

Open Question: Is this a valid reason to fire an employee?

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

I worked at a pretty big Japanese restaurant (about 200 seats) as a server for 4 months. The management there lacks many things, like training new employees properly, listening to their questions or concerns, etc. I was never actually trained, so I was forced to learn through trial and error. On top of that the kitchen crew is very slow (the restaurant is known for it). During lunchtime it gets really busy, especially Saturdays as we have All You Can Eat. We don’t have a hostess, as management doesn’t want to have to pay more money to another employee every shift (because they’re cheapskates). Because of this we have to host (greet and seat customers) on top of everything else, and there’s usually only two servers working a shift.
Last week I was on lunch shift and it was getting really packed. I was running nonstop and had to deliver food JUST as a group of 5 ladies came in through the door. I bussed the food to my table quickly and ran to the door (it’s pretty far away) and sat the ladies. They ALL ordered chicken teriyaki, which at this restaurant is a very decorative plate and takes 20 minutes to make. Everything was fine until they called me over and said they had to go soon and were wondering if it would be long, I told them another 5 minutes and it would be done. It took the kitchen a little over 25 minutes to make the food, which I asked them to place in to-go boxes so I could just bring it to them quickly. However while I was waiting for the food to come out I was called by one of my tables as the were ready to order. They were a large indecisive group so it took about 7 or 8 minutes for them to finalize their order. The other server I was working with was just standing behind the counter when it happened so she could have easily done me the favor of delivering the food to the women at the front. As soon as I was done I ran to the door with the food only to find out that the 5 women had left. Towards the end of my shift the manager asked me why there was food sitting out and I told him what happened. He was upset. And just my luck, the same incident happened the exact same week, where I had 3 tables on my head with 4 other table orders to punch in. This particular table’s order was the last one I punched in, even though they were the second people I asked. So obviously the food had a 5 minute delay and was taking longer than expected so the customers left. I believe these two are the reasons for why I was fired. Was it a valid one? I did my best and have been complimented for my friendly and attentive service many times while working here, but apparently I am “not suitable” for the job.

Open Question: Why would my boss accuse me of stealing money?

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

I work for a small town restaurant. My boss always pays me on Saturdays at the end of my shift. Today he didn’t show up, and someone said he’d be in around 5, so i picked up my daughter and came back to get my money. when i walked in and asked about it he flew off the handle in front of all the clocked in employees, and my daughter. He accused me of stealing over 500 dollars over the past month or so, saying i was the only “denominating factor” that made seance, and since he knows I need money really bad right now, He’s pretty sure it was me. I stood there totally shocked for a few minutes, walked outside and put my daughter back in the car, than when i went in i basically asked him what proof he had, and to take it somewhere private. Well he didn’t have any proof, other than im the most likely suspect because im the person most in debt. I work for him 6 days a week, different shifts every day, and whenever he calls me in im there. After he got the initial accusations out, he than explained to me that he owed the IRS 25,000 dollars in back taxes, couldn’t feed his family, and was about to loose his house…He said no one at the restaurant cared about him, and it always looked like shit. I feel bad things are going terrible for him, but at that point i was pissed and basically said that didn’t have anything to do with me. I told him i didn’t need a job bad enough i was going to get accused of stealing, and basically told him in a nice way that he was a bastard and left.. Later i called him and asked for my job back since i kind of quit, and he said it was fine and we would talk tomorrow. What do you think this is really about?
X, I didn’t have anything to do with it. lol.
Anon- Hes got four cameras, any of which he could readily watch…but he rarely dose.
