Open Question: Is there a fast way to cook Thai black sticky rice?

Friday, March 5th, 2010

My mother bought 10 pounds (yes, 10 lbs) of Thai black sticky rice and attempted to cook it as brown rice. Needless to say, it didn’t work. It was gooey.

I’ve looked up recipes online on how to cook it and everything I’ve found deals with a cheese cloth and soaking the rice for hours before even cooking (and I think you need steaming equipment and so forth).

Is there a way to cook this stuff quickly that isn’t as involved as what I’ve found? Or is this a situation of get what you need and spend the day cooking the rice?

Maybe I should donate it to our local Thai restaurant in exchange for cooked black sticky rice? LOL Just a thought!

Thanks!
