I’m an exchange student that will be living in Port Elizabeth, South Africa during July and I would love to know what the locals (females specifically) wear when going out at night to clubs/pubs/bars/restaurants, etc. Here at home, we usually wear a casual dress, jeans and a silk top, and heels or boots depending on the weather. I don’t want to give up my stilettos, but I don’t want to stand out either! Please help me in understanding what is appropriate and what is not. Thanks!

Can I just walk into a hotel in Cebu and start talking to the staff in English like I was in Baltimore? Should I get a translation dictionary? Will I be able to talk to the locals and find my way around to restaurants, bars, etc. without much problem?

My husband and I are going on a road trip to Charlotte, SC and Savannah,GA for 5 days. I requested travel guides from the city websites, but I want to know things that only locals know… good restaurants, parks, nice neighborhoods to visit, etc. Any ideas… and we are on a cheap budget so free things are good too!

Everyone can answer visitors and locals.
I would like to visit Amsterdam and was curious…..
When is the best time to visit Amsterdam?
Stay in a hotel or rent a weekly apartment?
What/Where are the best museums; in your opinion?
Are there really cool dance clubs?
In Amsterdam is there consignment/vintage/antique shops?
Odd ball shops/ restaurants?

I really want to travel to many different foreign countries once I graduate high school but I need to learn a bit of each language. I just want to know what foreign people (or I guess they’d be the locals) think of American tourists? Like if they dressed in a similar fashion and weren’t so open about being a tourist (fanny packs, socks with sandals, camera around the neck) and went to local restaurants and not chains? Personally, I’d want to be the type of American tourist that goes against the typical American stereotype (loud, outspoken and generally unintelligent). Also, if you tried to speak their language but pronounced things wrong, would the locals appreciate the effort?

I’m hoping to go to Duke after I graduate, and watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives made me pretty curious about the restaurants in Durham.
What are some of the cool, affordable, unique places that the locals and students absolutely love?

So I am going to New Zealand in the next couple of months, and want to know what i should go and see and do. I will be in Christchurch and Rangiora, I will only be there for about a week so i need like one day ideas and things. I don’t want to do all the touristy things so much, I want to see the cool stuff that the locals love. I love food so any great restaurants would be really appreciated.
