A couple issues here. I worked for a restaurant in Massachusetts for 4-5 months, but am no longer with them, while I was there I noticed some things, and I was wondering if they were reportable/where/who I would report them too.

First of which, one of the other servers, who worked with us was not getting paid in paycheck form. He was receiving food & alcohol in lieu of actual money. Is that illeagal?

I know one of the 16 year old hosts that was working with us, was getting paid under her father’s social security number. I.E. they only received one check a week. Neither of them work there any more, is that reportable?

Lastly the general manager gets paid a decent sized salary to work there. It’s based on a 40 hour week. For 5-6 shifts a week he collects tips as the bartender, and I am 95% sure he hasn’t claimed a penny. As a server I know that no one claims all of their tips, but the rest of us were all making 2.63 an hour. Is his problem more punishable?

ok so my boyfriend and i had a baby six months ago, just last month we finally got a place of our own, we didnt want to rush anything bc we had only been together a year. anyway long story short, we finally decided it was time to move in together and things have been great, until recently. i had to quit my job bc i worked ina different town. my bf was understanding about it bc he knew it was ridiculous for me to spend so much time driving back and forth. he told me hed take care of the bills while i looked for another job. well here we are three weeks later and still nothing, i swear i have applied everywhere in town! it is hard to finda job right now, i have even applied at fast food restaurants, anything, i just need to be working. i called him an hour ago on his lunch break, he works nights, and he had this pissy attitude, and i asked him what his deal was and he says to me taht he is tired of me doing nothing, and that if something doesnt change quick hes going to kick me out, which is crap, my name is on the lease and i paid all the deposits, not him. anyway, i was like what the hell u know ive been putting in applications every freaking day and trying so hard and he said that it doesnt matter that hes just tired of me doing nothing. well then i got mad, bc i dont do nthing. i take care of the baby day and night by myself bc he works at night and sleeps all day, i clean the house, i do the shopping for the house, i have his dinner ready every night for him before he goes to work, most nights i cant even sit down and eat with him bc im feeding the baby her dinner as well. he helps me with nothing. he never changes a diaper, he never feeds the baby, he wouldnt even watch her for fifteen mins tonight while i ran to return a movie, he made me take her with me bc he was playing a video game. im so pissed by this comment he made of me doing nothing, when i take care of t he house and the baby all the time with no help, and im busting my ass trying to find a job, but what he doesnt understand is that its hard for me to find a job bc i have to work certain hours around his shift bc we dont have a babysitter. honestly right now my first instinct is to tell him to go fuck himself bc him talking to me that way and telling me i do nothing is just ridiculous in my eyes, but im just wondering if maybe im overreacting and i should jsut turn off the phone and cool down bc all i wanna do right now is call him back and tell him to kiss my ass. i understand he is the one working, but he only works eight hours, then he comes home and sleeps for ten, gets up plays video games and goes back to work, so for himt o tell me i do nothing….ugh!!! im so furious!!!

I’ve worked at a local family-owned restaurant for just over 6 years now. About 9 months in, I had a seizure while working that the doctors said was due to exhaustion so they finally staffed more people, but since then have cut back more than ever. I used to have 5 people in the kitchen: head cook. line cook, prep cook, dishwasher, and busser. The past month I’ve had nobody except myself in the kitchen. I’m required to cook dishes, prepare foods, wash dishes, and perform all cleaning duties with no help from others!

Initially I didn’t have any complaints…the owners blamed it on ‘tough times’ and said to wait it out until it gets busier. My problem with that is that I’m the only one they’re having do this, and I’m getting no extra compensation either. All of my co-workers get the regular amount of people staffed and make the same amount if not more than me.

When approached for an increase in pay, I was told it wouldn’t be possible at this time. When I asked to schedule a dishwasher at least, they said it wasn’t busy enough for one. I told them that it seemed unfair that the days that ‘weren’t busy enough’ were always the same ones I worked even when I swapped shifts with others. After that my boss told me that he was going to reduce my days since it seemed like too much for me, yet the people who work my days mysteriously have additional staff scheduled alongside them.

I’ve decided to put my two-week notice in and I’m moving out of town with an acquaintance who has a job lined up for me. What I’d like council on is rather I should just leave it all behind me quietly or stand up against them an “go out in flames’ so-to-speak. There’s a variety of shady if not illegal/unsafe practices taking place that I believe should be addressed even if it won’t benefit me after I’m gone. I’ve been told to bombard them by talking to the Excise Tax Board, the EOCC, the IRS, etc. about the practices I’ve learned about over the years.

Would you do the same or go about it another way? Should I just sit this one out?

I work for a small town restaurant. My boss always pays me on Saturdays at the end of my shift. Today he didn’t show up, and someone said he’d be in around 5, so i picked up my daughter and came back to get my money. when i walked in and asked about it he flew off the handle in front of all the clocked in employees, and my daughter. He accused me of stealing over 500 dollars over the past month or so, saying i was the only “denominating factor” that made seance, and since he knows I need money really bad right now, He’s pretty sure it was me. I stood there totally shocked for a few minutes, walked outside and put my daughter back in the car, than when i went in i basically asked him what proof he had, and to take it somewhere private. Well he didn’t have any proof, other than im the most likely suspect because im the person most in debt. I work for him 6 days a week, different shifts every day, and whenever he calls me in im there. After he got the initial accusations out, he than explained to me that he owed the IRS 25,000 dollars in back taxes, couldn’t feed his family, and was about to loose his house…He said no one at the restaurant cared about him, and it always looked like shit. I feel bad things are going terrible for him, but at that point i was pissed and basically said that didn’t have anything to do with me. I told him i didn’t need a job bad enough i was going to get accused of stealing, and basically told him in a nice way that he was a bastard and left.. Later i called him and asked for my job back since i kind of quit, and he said it was fine and we would talk tomorrow. What do you think this is really about?
