Open Question: Waitress Interview HELP!?

Tuesday, December 20th, 2011

I have a job interview at a very small casual locally owned cafe on Monday. My Grandparents used to own the restaurant, and now they rent it out. Anyway, I have never had any job experience, and I’m nervous about this interview. I think I’m going to wear a knee length denim skirt, but what top? And what are good answers to common questions? Please help me. And also, I’m 18.

I went in a few days ago after seeing a “Help Wanted” sign, and said that I was wondering about the waitressing job.(They called me today to set up my interview) They gave me a VERY basic application, that asked my name, address, phone number, 2 references, and job experience.

Open Question: I am having an interview soon, can you help me out?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

I was browsing through craigslist and I found a part time job I am interested in applying for. It’s being a barista at a local cafe. The ad says to apply in person either tomorrow (Friday) Saturday or Sunday. I am assuming some questions will be asked, possibly an interview (do you think so?). There are just a few things I was wondering about. - I currently have a job at my uncle’s restaurant. The reason I want a new job is because I drive 30-60 min a day getting there. Also this cafe is right by my college that I am going to start going to next month. The ad says students welcome as well. It’s ok to apply while still having a job right? and that’s a good reason to want a new job right (long travel)? -I was thinking of asking questions myself when I apply such as: how many hours a week will this job get me? what times are you going to need me to work? ….DO you think it’s alright if I ask those kind of questions? I was also thinking of going tomorrow, the first day, at 3pm, the earliest time they will accept resumes and see people. It’s good to go first, right? Any other pointers will be appreciated, thank you!

Open Question: Interview tomorrow — help?

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

I’ll try to keep this short. I have another interview tomorrow, the third recently. The other two people said they would call me back, yet didn’t. I was thinking if it was because of my resume, or my interview.

First of all, I’ve worked in two restaurants, one being mcdonalds (which employers seem to like). The second, I was treated like dirt, although worked there for 5-6 months. After I had enough of them, I decided not to show up the next shift, so I basically quit.

Now on my resume, I have both jobs, plus another for volunteer exp. Anyways, when employers ask why I left, I say because of new management, they laid everyone off, etc. By the way, new management did start at around the time I quit, so it’s only half a lie.

Now my question is, should I leave this job off my resume? Why aren’t I getting hired? And what should I tell the restaurant manager tomorrow at my interview–that I left because new management laid me off? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I have an interview with Olive Garden tomorrow. I’m applying for a hostess and/or busser position. I know what to wear and have a pretty good idea on what they’ll ask, but what would win me the job? I really need this job. If you’ve worked for Olive Garden or any restaurants at all please help! Thanks :)
