Open Question: was slumdog millionaire part of a conspiracy?
Wednesday, September 21st, 2011The film showed the dark underbelly of mumbai and portrayed it in a way that makes it seem as if all of India is just one big slum with poverty and corruption everywhere…Many people (educated people) know more about India than what the film portrayed. There is one scene where Jamal tells an American tourist “This is real India” (poor, hungry, corrupt), to which the American takes out a $100 dollar bill and says “This is America!” (Rich and filled with nice caring people)….After watching this film, most foreigners may grow negative perceptions about India…Was this the producers plan? After a viewing of the film I heard a foreigner say, “eww disgusting country”…Are Indians the only ones that know that there is more to India then what is portrayed in the film…India also has a rich culture/tradition(over 120 different cultures), family values, 21 different languages and over 100 dialects, growing economy with modernization (roads, buildings, shopping centers, malls, clubs, bars, restaurants, fancy night life…)…Most of the times I see television and news, only poverty and negative aspects of India is shown….Is this a conspiracy to portray India in negative light?
