Open Question: Would this tattoo hurt my chance of getting a job?

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

I want very small script across my both of my wrists. It’s going to be on the underside of my wrists (the part of my arm that would only be shown with my palms up) and it means a lot to me. I’ve wanted it for a while and I’m soon going to be old enough to get it. My only concern is jobs. I want to become a graphic designer. Do you think a field as artistic as that one would mind such a small tattoo?

Also, it wont effect my chances of getting into college will it? I will be applying to art schools, so I think they expect a few people who don’t quite fit the mold of “normal.” lol

The tattoo will be very small and easily covered by long sleeves or bracelets, but I’m worried that even asking employers about their tattoo policies could cause a problem. I used to work with a girl who had a ring tattoo and she said she was turned away from a local restaurant because of it even after she offered to hide it with a real ring, or make up.

Open Question: I hated being a kid, is this weird?

Saturday, February 5th, 2011

When I was about six years old, I started hating being a kid. I refused, in fact would throw a fit if I had to eat a kids meal at a restaurant. When my family gather, it would be the same thing to avoid eating at the “kids” table. At church, all of the kids went to this thing called “Children’s Church” during the preacher’s sermon, and I would refuse to go because I thought the things we did there were stupid and childish. Its not just refusal, I also stopped enjoying kids things at this time. I thought the activities we did in elementary were stupid and childish (at seven, eight years old!).

Open Question: Toddler is throwing a fit in the restaurant…what to do?

Sunday, January 30th, 2011

We went to a restaurant for dinner today and my friends 16 month old boy did not want to eat and sit on the chair. My friend tried to calm him down but he would just scream, arch his back and so on. He wanted to get down and walk around but the restaurant was too busy.

Anyway, they broke up the dinner, took the food home.

How do you handle a situation like that with a toddler? There must be somehow a way to get this under control, right? I would love to hear from experienced mums what they suggest.

Open Question: What are the best southern cities?

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

Real southern architecture, hospitality, classy, history and charming. What cities fit this? I’ve been to several southern cities and this is how I felt:

New Orleans- Awesome architecture, friendly people, a lot of original stores & restaurants

Atlanta- Alright. Pretty corporate and not much of a southern vibe. Some nice houses in the suburbs, but overall, not what I like

Dallas- 100% what I do not like. Way too many chain stores. It seems like wall-marts, malls, and other institutions run everyday life. Very boring architecture, and is more of a western town than a southern one.

Charleston- 100% what I love. This is the definition of southern charm.

BTW, feel free to name off smaller towns as well. I could care less if there are 2,000 or 200,000. Nature is also an important element. I know some places on the bayou may not be the richest, but I could care less as long as it still has that slow pace way of life without stripe malls that cover all the natural beauty around it.

Open Question: What do they do when they alter your pants? HELP!?

Saturday, October 30th, 2010

My body is shaped weird. I have skinny legs but my stomach looks like I’m 6 months pregnant. I’m working on losing it, but as for now there’s not much I can do. It’s EXTREMELY hard for me to find work pants that fit me right since they want them pretty high and I don’t wear mine that high. I’d be able to wear them like they want, but I can’t get my pants over my stomach. If I get them to fit around my waist, they’re HUGE on my legs. Couldn’t I get a size that is way bigger than I usually wear since that’s how work pants fit me (I work in a restaurant), and then just get them altered so the leg part fits me good? Is this possible for the alternation people to do? I need them to take it in a lot in the width and the length. Do you know if this is possible? Please get back to me asap!

Open Question: What are the building requirements for toilet fixtures in the state of Texas?

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

The city says that in order to put a vent system in my restaurant i have to make the restrooms bigger, yet if i want to make the restrooms bigger i have to get an asbestos test…which is like $5000 to clean up if there is, and $700 just to test it. I went around video taping a place in town and their building is historical , yet they have no asbestos test… and my building isnt even old, the owners put the sheet rock up 1 year ago…how could they get away with not taking an asbestos test and their building is older than mine???
I just need to know if i am being treated fairly by the city.

There are places in town which have an arms length to fit in.

So do i need to make my restrooms bigger in order to put a vent system in?
The ones who’s historical didnt get an asbestos test and they are deguting the whole inside….yet i can even put a vent system in because the city says that i have to get an asbestos test and my walls are brand new…whats with that???
sorry miss spelled can’t*

Open Question: Where is this NYC Mexican restaurant at? Can’t remember..?

Saturday, September 18th, 2010

A couple of years ago I went to this Mexican restaurant in the city. It was two-story, very crowded, with small tables all next to each other. They had a happy hour, and mostly burritos on the menu, with a lot of vegetarian options. I don’t remember at all where it was located. Does anyone have any idea? (i realize a lot of places probably fit this description…sorry)

Open Question: Should I apply for the job even if I don’t have as much experience as they ask for?

Sunday, August 29th, 2010

I want to apply for a host position at a fine dining restaurant. I’ve had a year’s worth of hosting experience, but on the Craigslist ad, it says “If you have at least two years experience and a passion for hospitality, please apply.”

It doesn’t say do not apply if you don’t have 2 years experience, however, only that if you do you should apply. Does that mean it’s a requirement? They are holding open interviews on Thursday–should I walk in with my resume and apply anyways? It sounds like a great place to work and I want to give it a shot. I just don’t want them to get annoyed with me or immediately reject me.
I also feel like I’m a good fit for the restaurant, and I’m definitely hostess material (cute, petite, really friendly, etc).

Open Question: New to NYC-Any Advice?

Sunday, August 8th, 2010

I’m 18 and moving to New York City to attend FIT. I’m sooo nervous about moving to such a huge city. I’m looking for an apartment in either Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens or Manhattan. Particularly SoHo and the Tribeca area. Where are some districts you would recommend to live? Also restaurants and grocery stores etc. Any other advice on living NYC would be great.
Thank you:)
