Open Question: Why do people think Regulations are a good thing?

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

To believe Regulations are good, you must also believe:

A) Government has some incentive to actually care about you. (Please show me how)
B) Corporations don’t have lobbyist writing the Regulations in their interests
C) That the cost of the Regulations don’t get passed to the consumer

The free market is self regulated by the consumer. It’s very simple, if a product is shody or unsafe, the consumer will seek their competitor. Regulations just create barriers. Look there are no regulations for customer service, decor/theme, or promotional give aways. Yet Companies do these things to win the consumer over their competitor.

This idea that we need an FDA because we are in fear of poor sanitation is foolish. A restaurant for example needs proper sanitation because everyone will eventually realize how unsanitary it is to eat there, then they would go to other restaurants. It’s self regulated. Just like how in a Restaurant if the service is poor, you go to another restaurant. It’s anarchy in terms of service, but so what it’s still naturally regulated.
Balzac: You do realize news outlets, websites, and other forms of media for example can spot these things out. We don’t need idiots with brief cases sitting in an air conditioned room tossing a salad. If you think you’re truly safe, how about all the times they fail? How do you hold them accountable when they fail to protect you? You inherently can’t answer this question.
Boss H: You can’t read, I said Customer Service for example is anarchy because it’s not regulated. Criminals hurting others is not comparable to customer service. Please apply logic because you type. I’m embarrassed and offended you have a brain.
Clean Water can be provided by companies, I know this to be true because water is bottled. Governments like India and Nigeria that control the water supply have shoddy water and people die all the time. Yet no one complains.
φως (fos) Regulations do exist for BP, it’s the Governments Fault as the regulator for not keeping BP in Check. If this was a real free market, the land that got soiled with oil would be private not government land. So we can know it’s true value damaged and BP would pay a real fine. Not this arbitrary what ever fine we assume it is worth. You can’t put a value on something that isn’t traded. You’ll always either under or over value it.
Lawgirl: Alright law girl you left wing lawyer. I want you to regulate the fast food industry and regulate customer service. I the consumer was offended that they didn’t give me my cheeseburger in under 1 minute. I’m in danger here, I need government protection. Don’t just regulate their customer service, regulate their decor, regulate their prices, regulate what they can say. I want the FCC to censor McDonalds employees that curse during work, make them pay fines. It offends children when they curse during work. Omg protect the consumer because the consumer can’t go to their competitor in a free market. Oh the horror and oh you got owned.
God loves jew, not you: Saying Politicians care about you because they will get reelected is like saying Companies care about you because they get their product repurchased.

Again, apply logic please.
Antithesis: Again you’re fear mongering.

It’s like saying “OMG WE NEED TO REGULATE CUSTOMER SERVICE BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL FACE BAD SERVICE, COMPANIES WILL IGNORE THEIR CUSTOMERS! OMG THE HORROR”

Keep fear mongering.
Legio XVII: Wow you just did an epic fail. I hope you realize seat belts and air bags were both lobbied by the manufacturers. Don’t be a moron. Those both violated rule B. You need to read deeper. Think with your brain and not your eyes.
