Open Question: When a Japanese girl (here in Japan) does something, what does it mean?

Friday, November 4th, 2011

This question is for all very traditional Japanese girls. I am an American, living in Japan. I’m a type of person that once I find something I like, its all I want. I found a restaurant that makes the best food. Not too bad of a price, really beautiful and the workers are all really nice. Some of them speak English, and since I struggle with Japanese, I usually just talk to them. From my 1st trip to the restaurant, I started to talk to an employee there. The one hat spoke the most english. She and I would joke and laugh and really talk a lot. I would sit at the bar, so even when she is cooking, she can still talk to me.
Now, I “know” American girls. When I do something, or when they say something, I know what it means. The same goes for Latin girls. I learned Spanish much quicker and it seems I learned the meaning of things from the people too.
So this girl and I went out a few times. I know of other really good restaurants that I wanted to take her to. She had me over for ice cream on 1 occasion where I brought ice cream, a notepad and pen and she helped me with Japanese. Never once was there s time when she leaned in for a kiss or she had a conversation with me about liking me, and I’m good at noticing they kind of stuff. So, I met a girl (this is all starting 6 months ago, btw). I had to go visit this girls family and I guess her parents are very strict. So I got her dad American beer, but didn’t know what to get for her mom. So I asked my friend, at her work. The result is I ate my meal alone. I confronted my friend about it a week later and she said she didn’t feel well. That’s fine so everything is all good right? No. She’s totally taken a step back. She barely even says hello to me now. My final straw is, the other day her car broke down. I saw her. She was totally lost in what to do. Now, she knows that I do all the maintains on my car. I baby my car and make sure it’s always running well. I have done a few tasteful modifications that all turned out very well. But when I offered to look at it, she said there was no need and her mechanic friend was coming.
If this girl had feelings for me, all she had to do is say something. Honestly, my girlfriend doesn’t treat me very good and it wouldn’t take much for me to see the light with someone who, in my eyes, is an overall good person.

So what do I do? Comfront her? I’ll do anything to talk to her again. She was a great friend.

Open Question: What is the name of the restaurant in St. Augustine that was on “Breakfast Special” on PBS this morning?

Monday, October 17th, 2011

They were cooking breakfast and it was in St. Augustine. It was on a show called “Breakfast Special” on WUFT at 2am this morning Friday August 6th.
Here is what the info said;”A celebration of breakfast visits a Cuban cafe in St. Augustine, FL….”
One of the cooks name’s was “Franklin Pierce” like the 14th president.
I missed the beginning of the show, but would like to drive down there for breakfast.

Open Question: Does she like me? (Preferably from girls)?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

I asked this girl to hangout and get coffee and catch up because we hadn’t seen each other in years. She was engaged to another guy at the time and I was just wanting to hang out with her because she is a really cool girl

Well her and her fiance broke up two weeks ago (they had been together for years.) The next time I talk to her I ask her how she’s doing. She tells me her and the guy had broke up, and she’s not OK right now but hopefully she will be. The next time after that we are talking and at the end of the conversation she asks me to let her know when I want to “meet.” I hadn’t suggested a meeting time because I didn’t really want to be seen as her “girlfriend shoulder to cry on” type. It was a few weeks after their breakup and I asked her over the phone if she wanted to meet for coffee. She said yes. We met at the shop. She hugged me and I told her she looked great and she said I did too. I open doors and pull out chairs doing the gentlemen thing cause that’s what I do. She paid for her order and didn’t seem to expect me to pay. She had it paid for before I had the chance to offer to pay. We talk and the conversation goes well. She asks questions about me I ask a lot about her. We laugh and are having a good time. At one point in the evening I touch her arm admiring her bracelet. So the touch barrier is broken for sure, her body language is telling me she is interested (although it may just be interest in the conversation at the time.) She’s leaning forward, lots of eye contact, her foot pointed at me and she doesn’t keep much distance between us. During the conversation she does mention a guy she thinks is hot (although he is her dentist and he is married and I had asked her where she goes to the dentist at because I needed to find a new one.) She also mentioned the breakup and stated that she missed “having someone to talk to” and her ex’s cooking because she hated to cook. (After I had mentioned I liked to cook and was good at it!) She said “I guess I shouldn’t be talking about other guys….” and kind of trailed off. I didn’t react and just kind of ignored it because I’m not really the jealous type. I know if a girl is talking about other guys that she thinks are hot that may be a bad sign… but I don’t know what she was doing there for sure. I think she is trying to figure out if I like her by seeing if I react? Or she may be trying to hint that she isn’t interested in me? We hugged and left 2 hours later. She told me she had fun and she hinted at wanting to do something again. I have known this girl and liked her for years but the whole time I knew her she was dating and then engaged to her now ex. He was an immature muscle bound guy. I think she wasn’t ready for marriage is why they broke up. I have never made any move or made it obvious that I liked her and still haven’t. She talks to me whenever I am online on IM. I make sure to appear busy and I don’t act like a friend so much (as in I’m busy talking to other people too and not always available.) I plan on either asking her to meet again at a restaurant for a meal, or asking her on a date to a movie, but I don’t know if she would be ready yet to go on a date even if she was interested in me. She’s a really friendly social person, but she doesn’t talk to a lot of guys and flirt with a lot of guys.

I appreciate any insight I can get into the female mind and I can handle it if it doesn’t sound like she is interested in me I just want to have a better idea. :D Also if I am honest I would consider her to be out of my league, but I try not to judge people by appearances. She is like a 8 and I am a 6 at my very best. Her ex, myself, and the guy she talked about being hot are all “bigger” guys so I may just be her type. Around her I am confident, a little cocky but not much, and I tease and flirt with her a lot, so I doubt she thinks I just want to be friends. Thanks for any help!!
Thanks for the great answers so far! God I love the internet. They were engaged for three years, it has been a little over two weeks since they broke up now. I think she broke up with him because she wasn’t ready for marriage. I will most likely keep hanging with her occasionally and I will take things slow I think. As long as I am hanging out with other friends and looking at other girls I see nothing wrong with the situation. I will try and help her figure out what went wrong as one person suggested. I will still be flirtatious with her but no asking her on a date until she shows some more signs of being interested in taking things in that direction. Keep those answers coming if you have any other suggestions or interpretation! You have no idea how much this helps me think this out. :)

Open Question: how can i purposely lose my job without acting like a jerk?

Monday, June 20th, 2011

alright i know its pretty weird lol. i got a job a couple days ago but i feel like im being completely shafted. there is only one other employee other than me and the boss and its a small restaurant. the first couple days were AWFUL; i had to do every single thing(i signed up for a cooking position, yet im doing all sorts of chores outside, inside, cleaning this and that, stacking/breaking boxes, etc.) i get paid minimum wage, and really just hate this job already. i called my boss earlier and was thinking of quitting, but he said to call him back if i decided to stay. i called him a few hours later and said i would, but now i just want to quit working there. i don’t wanna look weird for not making up my mind and wasting the guys time, but its really bad there already. also, my first day i was scheduled for a certain time, and yet he called me TWICE to tell me to come in later and later, as if i was on call. i’m not, and i feel like i’m being disrespected. what should i do to get fired? lol

Open Question: Oil for charcoal BBQ?

Monday, June 6th, 2011

We recently open a restaurant for BBQ in South East Asia, and have been using Mangrove hardwood charcoal for the BBQ. However, I noticed the fire goes out easily when we use a normal starter, and we have been considering adding oil or fluid on the charcoal which will assist in the burning. We need something that will not spoil the taste of the food, at the same time being safe and not containing any dangerous chemicals since we will be using it for cooking. Any recommendations ?

Open Question: trying to find the name of a movie?

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

Theres a movie that came out quite a while ago, prolly around 10 yrs or so. It’s about a female chef, and there’s something about her cooking, that affects peoples feelings/emotions when they eat it. I remember something about a boyfriend in the movie supporting her cooking.. and… something at some point where the whole restaurant just freezes, time stands still almost, in the movie…. Any ideas/help/answers would be appreciated :) I remember I loved that movie when I was younger and would love to watch it again. Thanks!
Thanks mystic!!! That’s the exact movie I’m looking for! I’ll select yours as best answer as soon as it lets me :) thanks a lot!

Open Question: Is this a good idea for my husbands birthday?

Monday, April 18th, 2011

We are going to have dinner at a restaurant and just inviting a few close family and friends. Is it rude to ask the people attending to pay for there own dinners since we are on a budget? I decided not to do a cook out bbq at home too much work cooking etc. A restaurant will be easier and we can all have cake afterwords.

Open Question: Which college, institute or university can I study both cooking and culinary management at the same time?

Wednesday, April 13th, 2011

I want to study restaurant & culinary management because I love food. However, it’s gonna be better to have another job such as a chef or a cook to support my management career. I know there are college that have both of these majors but I’m not so sure they will let me study both at the same time. Please tell me if you know one that meet my requirement. Thanks!
P/s: I’m going to study at 2-year college and get my AA degree starting this fall (just let you know).

Open Question: What kind of jobs do Black American commonly do?

Sunday, March 20th, 2011

I see a lot of Asian Americans and they work such as nail salon, donuts, restaurants, hi tech and education. Hispanics often do a lot of work in construction, janitorial-maintenance-cooking. What about black people? My neighbor works as a nurse, but I can’t really say that is a job black men commonly do?
