We have a 9 month old daughter together. I’ve always told him that if he wanted to go hang out with friends after work to let me know he was going to be home late. I didn’t mind if he wanted to be out. Well work for him ends at 10 pm and he used to get home at 11 pm or 11:30pm every night after clean up. Lately he’s been coming home closer to 1:00a.m.

He blames it on his boss saying his boss goes home at 8 and then they are short one hand to help with the clean up. The second thing he blames it on lately is that they have a new system and his other boss’s husband takes too long with the earnings counting etc. He says that the husband goofs off while he’s supposed to be counting and it would go a lot faster if he would focus.

I want to believe him, but does it honestly take 3 hours to clean up a tiny mom and pop diner when 3 people are in the back cleaning up? I feel like he’s not being honest to me lately. This all started happening after our baby came into the picture. It just seems lately he is coming home later and later. Then one day he left his phone here by mistake and a girl who used to work at the restaurant had called. She seemed shocked that I answered and asked how I and the baby were doing. I told him that my boyfriend wasn’t home and I would let her know he called. I had answered the phone in the first place because I thought maybe he was trying to call from one of his friends phones to locate his phone because he’s done that before. A few days later when I had asked if he got in touch with her he said yes, and I asked why she had called, he said it was because she was calling him to check up on the baby and me…. Ummm? First off, I don’t even know her and I’ve never met her. Second, why would she care enough to call him in the middle of work to ask him something like that? When she had called he would have been working. I feel like something is up.

Am I over worrying over nothing or is this all suspicious? He doesn’t come home with the smell of alcohol on him or anything so I don’t think he’s going to a bar, but I just can’t quite believe him that it takes them 3 hours to finish everything up at that small restaurant when before it only took an hour.

I’m really stressed out and I need some advice. Please help me…

I work at a restaurant and we were having a rough night (a big party came in 15 minutes before close). While they were eating a little girl was crying and I told my boss that she just started doing it for no reason.

My boss said, “Oh, so she’s bipolar?” With a huge smile on her face. She was talking to two guys, both of whom she has dated or is currently dating. I said, “Was that a shot? Because that’s pretty damn unprofessional of you, aren’t you my boss?” She said I tell everyone anyway, but I had just told someone about the medication I was recently put on and she was eavesdropping. But isn’t it a violation of some kind of privacy right for her to keep her mouth shut about things she’s overheard?

I work at a Chinese restaurant with Chinese cooks. One of them has given me a “Chinese name”, and I am slightly concerned, for my boss claims he doesn’t know what it means when he heard them calling me it, as well as a Chinese foreign exchange student. However, they both started laughing a little, which makes me wary.

Upon our dear fry-cook’s departure, it was said that the name, something like “Fabumei”, meant “slut”. Now, all of you question answerers out there, tell me the truth. I do not care if it’s offensive to me or not. So please tell me–

Long story short - I have worked at a restaurant as a host for two years part-time while in high school. My manager had always disliked me, she had her favorites and I wasn’t one. I didn’t mind, as I knew I was a great employee.

Well today, she promised a group of 12 they’d be in within the hour (which was implausible) - so to do that she asked me to skip about 10 different parties for this table that were already over their quote 10 minutes! This would have had them waiting an additional 5/10 minutes! I told her I would not do it, because I didn’t feel comfortable doing that. Her response was “You’ll do it because I’m your boss!” I responded negatively with this and said “I will do whatever I see fit, I’m not lying to customers.”

She’s used the phrase “You’ll do it because I’m your boss” a lot in my two years there. It’s clear she’s a terrible woman. Now I’ve been written up for “Review of termination” meaning I’ll be gone probably within a few days.

I’m pleased, really! How do I go about explaining this whilst looking for new jobs? I’m still in high school but this 2 year job was my only experience. Do I still put on applications that I was employed there? Do I explain? help!

So i got a job in Senoritas a mexican restaurant, bar, grill. etc. And i am one of the new hostess… I’ve only worked 2 days and hasn’t completed my training yet, which is suppose to be 3 days. But the girl that gave me instructions won’t be working with me tomorrow and i’ll be on my own. So a lot of people do come on weekends i’ve heard and here’s a list of a few things i know. How to greet peole etc. and i learned the 55 tables on the 1st floor. but i do get confuse with the table for 6 people… cause you have to separate them or something like that. And i know how to use the computer to check off the sits taken or not. And also i know how to make a reservation but i still hasn’t been told if i asign the table or someone will assign it for me… Is there anything else that i should know? This is my first job and i don’t wanna loose it. My boss told me that i will be on my own starting tomorrow so i’ve got to show him my best! And i will! but i’m afraid i dont have the skills… I’m not that fast either. So please help me if you can! It’ll mean so much thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I’ve ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.

Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband’s employer’s home My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend… The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house.

The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted to have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband’s employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband..

He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts

Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the penny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did this man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man’s face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this? ‘Look at it.’ He said. ‘Read what it says.’ She read the words ‘ United States of America ”No, not that; read further.”One cent?”No, keep reading.”In God we Trust?”Yes!”And?”And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin.. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription.. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him..

For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God’s way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me , God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized t hat I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change.]

I read the words, ‘In God We Trust,’ and had to laugh.. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful!

And, God is patient..

Can i sue my employer for not giving me breaks. I work 5.5 hours with no breaks at a restaurant. My boss is constantly talking about woman’s breast and buttocks i was stretching one time and he touched my stomach, which was awkward and made me feel uncomfortable. In the employment book it says that’s sexual harassment and it also says that if I’m working part time (which i am) that i cant work no more than 30 hrs and no less than 20 hrs a week. All while he’s only giving me 11 hrs a week. Even if i schedule days off for important event for myself i never get them off or there is always some mistake. This company is so unprofessional and i don’t want to be taken advantage of because of someones else greed on wanting to get a bonus. Nobody is given an official break and he talks about woman’s body parts alll the time.

My question was not How can i sue my employer it was, CAN i meaning: is there a possible case. And if you would like to stand at a host stand 5 1/2 hrs straight with no break then quit your job and apply for a position such as that since it so “easy.” I actually do know about the law and that’s why i asked this question because I KNOW what they’re doing is NOT right.

I work at a restaurant and lately on the last few schedules they have given me one day off and that day is the day I have classes…so not technically a day off, usually I’m given another one as well. Well we’ve been short staffed lately at work and so I’ve been working a lot more hours. The problem is it seems like my work relies on my too much when someone cannot show up for their shift, they call me and guilt me into coming in to work and I say ‘Yes’ because I don’t want to feel like a bad person for not coming in…which is my first mistake.

I’ve been working my shifts and then coming home only to get calls not even an hour later asking if I can come back and work the shift of someone else. So safe to say I’ve been pissed, well everyone at my work rants and I was doing the same…the lacking days off thing wasn’t bothering me at all, it’s the fact that I seem to be getting called to come in and work a lot of extra shifts lately. The one time it was fine because I agreed to it because I felt bad for the one girl, she was in pain and she was supposed to go see the doctor, the second time I came in this week was because she didn’t go to the doctor and the pain got worse and she had to go to the hospital….so it’s hard to be mad. But when I came back the other night, it was my 6th day without a day off and I was tired and a little cranky…but as my shift went on I was better and got extra things done to help them out for the next day.

Well when I was in my classes today they called my house and told my mom that they were giving me Friday and Saturday off, and when I was told this…I wondered why. So I called my place of work and asked why they called earlier and my boss said they were giving me Friday and Sat. off and that he heard that I was ‘yelling and complaining’ about not having a day off…which isn’t really even the issue here, yes it’s part of it; but most of it is them relying on me too much. And then I was told that one of the other girls was going to be in town this weekend and that she offered to work those days.

So yeah the days off are nice, but it would’ve been nice to have a say in them….because when I looked at my schedule….he’s screwing me out of 12 hours, and now I feel like I’m being punished for venting when everyone I work with does it. I’m not a bad worker, my reviews are always positive and I’ve always been willing to come in. I do a lot of extra work and always give it my all when I’m there.

My mom thinks I should go in in the morning and talk to him to get to the heart of the issue, but I’m not sure…but I don’t want to lose 12 hours either. If I do go in to talk to him….I have no idea what to say, help!
My boss was out of town when this happened

My husband and I own a bar/ restaurant. I go out of town a couple times a month and every time, I have this employee who causes drama everytime I leave. The last time I went out of town she texed me 6 times about the schedule and why did she have to work on Saturday. She said I changed the schedule around that has been posted for a month. Well for one thing I am the boss and second I did not change the schedule on her, she just did not want to work on Saturday. My husband sticks up for her all the time\. When I got back home I had another employee tell me my husband told her that the employee that did not want to work on Sat said if I were there she would hit me and my husband did not fire her, he let her decide if she wanted to work for us or not and let him know on Monday. I was furious, he did not defend me being his wife and 1/2 owner of our company. I am steaming mad, he should of fired her on the spot for speaking of me that way. He has spoken with her since and defends her and not me. I am tired of him for many other things and ready to leave him.
I am also tired of seeing him send other woman sexual and nudity pictures by text.

Ok im 20 years old, and every thursday nights me and my family go to a restaurant to watch a car show. Their is a hostess their that I think is very beautiful. Shes very nice and always takes good care of us. The problem is that I cant talk to her because she is always really busy and her boss is always around. So on thursday night, while I was eating with my family, my dad was was a little tipsy started telling me that I should talk to the her. He started being loud and called her over and told her that I thought she was pretty. She laughed and walked away. 20 minutes later when she was not as busy, I walked up to her and apologized how dumb my dad acted. She smiled and told me not to worry. I asked her if I could give her something and she said yes. I gave her a note stating that I thought she was very pretty and that I didn’t wanna talk to her and get her in trouble, with my number at the bottom. She smiled and told me thank you. I thought things were awesome at the time. Now its been a whole night and a full day and she still has not called or text-ed me. Do you think she is just not interested in me? Did I mess up in a way? Should I go back or something? I really think she is very beautiful and seems like a very joyful person and really want to get to know her. I don’t know what to do. She always smiled at me since the first day we got there so I thought she was sort of into me. Someone please help. Thank you.
