Open Question: Are the ads on the side of the Y!A screen loosely tailored to each user’s IP location and usage?
It makes sense that someone in Germany wouldn’t have the same ads for American chain restaurants appear on their screen, but I’m surprised by how specific some of the ads have been lately for my use. I primarily am in the Cancer and Adolescent sections, and I keep seeing ads for USC’s (University of Southern California) cancer hospital and teen-related issues as well as general ones for LA-related businesses and issues. Is this just coincidental, or does YA really tailor their ads based on each person’s IP location and the sections they frequent?
Stephen K - I’m assuming that you get JC Penny ads because you live in an area where people shop at that store. I’ve never seen an ad for them. Obviously, I wouldn’t expect someone from YA to trail you around and see if you shop there.
I’m not saying that the ads are precisely designed for each person - I’m asking if there is a loose fit based on IP location and usage history.
